02/10/98 - 1.00 - First Public Release
03/28/98 - 1.10 - We've removed the Blue Pop-up window registration
insentive from the TERM. The only registration
insentive remaining is the scrolling text when
you exit the term. We've done this as a curtesy to
the users of LI-TERM. However, please do consider
registering the term. Registering will allow us
to continue support and enhancements of the LI-TERM
product.
04/25/98 - 1.20 - The usual minor internal enhancments, spelling mistakes
corrected, etc..
- A minor bug in the DDO-F/X script was corrected. When
Graphic Text Windows were housed within a Graphic Window
they still updated the Visual Page causing some of
the Animation Profiles to stamp a perminent frame to
the visual page. This problem has been fixed.
- Also, the bitmap fonts were not being positioned on the
screen properly. They were using the bottom Y coordinate
as if it were the upper Y coordinate of the scale box
for placement orientation. This has now been fixed so
the box created is where the bitmap font will go. This
too is a DDO-F/X script fix.
- The RUN LOCAL SCRIPT function did not recognize the
A.I. DEFVAR variable reference within the scripts.
You can now pass a System Variable to this function
as well as specifically stating the local script
to run. (i.e.
{*DEFVAR1} if DEFVAR1 = 'MAIN.FXN' it
would run MAIN.FXN. This is the same as saying
{*MAIN.FXN}) This too is a DDO-F/X script fix.
- We've enhanced the polling for incomming characters to
help those users with slower 486 machines. On the slower
486 CPU's users reported seeing ANSI codes while receiving
ANSI screens. This was a result of missed characters
due to the computers inability to poll for incomming
characters fast enough. We have shifted additional
priorities to the polling of characters to help resolve
this issue. If you still have problems then turning off
the music and sound f/x will help greatly. Background
music and sound f/x consumes a lot of priority resources.
When background music and sound f/x is off those
resources are shifted to the polling of incomming
characters. We have also increased character polling
during a DDO-F/X (NM) session for similar reasons.
- Many people were mistaking the Telnet Modem Profile as
a bug in LI-TERM. Thinking that LI-TERM was detecting
a COM PORT that they did not have. The Telnet Modem
Profile is a default profile set-up to make telnetting
with LI-TERM easier. To eliminate any confusion on
this I've removed the notification of this com port
from the Scanning process.
- We added a Textual Fade test to the front end of the
term when it is first installed and executed. This
will help to configure LI-TERM for those Video Cards
which do not support the enhanced textual fading and
color cycling.
- The music bars in the terms main window were a bit
staticy. We rewrote them so that they appear more
solid.
- We made additional enhancements to the DDO-F/X (PRO)
Client execution routines. You may notice a minor
difference when running any of our PRO doors. Ultimately
it will work the same allowing you to play the
games, however, it will just do it a little differently.
- We added a Newsletter Back Issues catagory to the
catalog so that you will always be able to re-read
back issues of the newsletter. When using the auto
update feature to pick up the new newsletter you will
need to pick up a new catalog to update the back issues
area. It is not necessary to do this, only if you are
interested in back issues of the news letter.
- We've dramatically increased the number of SVGA video
cards we are compatible with and have dumpped support
for the VESA 2.0 standard. It was just too buggy for
our tastes. We have included an advanced detection
system for the video hardware and if no supported
chip-sets are detected LI-TERM will refuse to boot.
This will ensure that if LI-TERM boots up all DDO-F/X
applications (sufficient memory not withstanding) will
work. Thanks Stuart!
- We've also enhanced the mouse detection routines to
included more reliable detection for Serial, Bus,
InPort, PS/2, and Hewlette Packard mice.
- LI-TERM now does a basic self-diagnostics to ensure
that the environment it was executed in is satisfactory.
The primary check is to ensure that LI-TERM wasn't
installed in a directory which uses LONG FILENAMES as
the name of the directory. LI-TERM is not compatible
with the WIN 95 LONG FILENAMES and installing it to
directories longer than standard DOS naming schemes
will cause an error. This diagnostics will detect
this problem before it hits and inform the user to
REINSTALL LI-TERM to a proper directory format.
Also, LI-TERM makes sure that their is sufficient
disk space available for its 8 meg virtual ram file.
- Added support for 78 more SVGA cards, thats more than
100 SVGA cards directly supported at the Chip Set
Level. This should clear up any strange side-effects
that some of you have reported while in graphics mode.
- Fixed the Fax status display, some characters were
begin cut off prematurely and now will display the
entire information.
- The numerous fixes in version 1.2 of the term also
coincide with upgrades of all of our DDO-F/X doors
If you were experiencing any of the above problems
be sure to pick up the latest versions of the doors
to make sure that all problems are corrected properly.
- We added a mention in the F1 pop-up help window to
inform users that they can press F10 even while in
a DDO-F/X (NM) application (graphical) to temporarily
switch back to text modem and navigate the drop down
menu's of LI-TERM to issue any term based functions
which may be necessary. Many users were confusing
DDO-F/X (NM) applications (such as Dark Harvest,
Dungeon Lords, and the like) as stand-a-lone applications
and believed that they were executed seperately from
the term. In reality, these DDO-F/X (NM) games are
actually using DDO-F/X script commands and even though
they are in graphics mode they never cause the user to
leave the terminal program but, only change from text
mode to graphics mode. The Text mode interface is still
running seamlessly under the graphics mode interface
and can be accessed by the user at any time by pressing
F10.
- We also added the CTRL-BACKSPACE function to the F1
pop-up window letting users know that if an ill behaved
DDO-F/X (NM) application erroniously leaves them in
graphics mode starring at a black screen or a non-
responsive graphics screen that pressing CTRL-BACKSPACE
will switch them perminantly back to text mode. This
command differs from the F10 command which will auto-
matically return the user back to the graphics mode
session once they ESC out of the textual drop down
menus. This command perminantly switches the user back
to text mode and abandons the currently executing
DDO-F/X (NM) application. The application would have
to re-issue the GO TO GRAPHICS MODE command along with
any setups the application needs (sprites and so forth)
to continue.
- Keep those bug reports comming.....We are dedicated to
making LI-TERM as error free as possible. Version 1.0
and 1.1 were our initial releases and although much of
the basic code was well tested we hadn't had an
opertunity to test the term on many different hardware
configurations. Version 1.2 consists mainly of
enhancments in the detection and proper use of various
types of hardware. The upgrades in this version should
eliminate all problems reported to this date including
any and all listed above and probably a few I forgot
to mention. We had a hard time beating these bug
reports out of you for version 1.2. We're begging you
to please report any problems you may have through
any of the multitude of channels we provide for
contacting us. Even if it is just a mention in a FIDO
Echo. Even if you think the bug may have already been
reported please report it to us again. We can't fix
bugs we don't know about. We want LI-TERM to be error
free and to work flawlessly with as many systems as
we can. The better the term works the more time we'll
be able to spend on evolving DDO-F/X and writing new
cool releases for DDO-F/X (Like Dark Harvest) instead of
the time consuming task of hunting down bugs in the term.
Since the term is required to view any DDO-F/X
application it will always take top priority and we want
to make sure that it is top quality. So help us out
and report any and all bugs you may find in the term.
We're pretty sure we got all of the reported hardware
problems fixed in this version....Let us know if we
didn't...Thanks much in advance.
04/27/98 - 1.21 - Made a correction in the Graphic Text Window. The
Ansi clear screen command will now home the cursor
position. Minor spelling mistakes corrected.
05/01/98 - 1.30 - Sorry for the versions so quick back to back but we
completed our new auto-installation program sooner
than expected and wanted to release it before too many
people downloaded v1.21. This new installation program
will work equally well under Windows 3.1, Windows 95,
and DOS. It is a multi-purpose all in one installation
program. It makes it easy for a user to install the
term. Under windows it will create a work group and
even make available an icon with a PIF file with the
propper settings so that all a Windows user need do
is click the icon to boot up LI-TERM. It can't get
much easier than that. This should solve all those
problems with Windows Users who are not very adept at
using DOS and PKZIP.
Also, we've inlisted some new minimum requirements for
the term. We've up'd the minimum memory required to
12 megabytes if the user is intending on using the
DDO-F/X (NM) SVGA graphical interface of LI-TERM.
However, the DDO-F/X LITE (Enhanced ANSI) interface
will still be available to those systems with only
8 megabytes. Some of the new added features of v1.21
pushed the memory requirements just a tad over 8
megabytes. We tried everything to cram it back down
into 8 megabytes but to no avail. On the up-side
however, this may give you the reason you were looking
for to spend the $25 bucks and pick up 16 megs of ram
<grin>.........Let us know what you think of the new
installation program.
